Fall Programs
The 1st / 2nd Grade League will be coached and coordinated by Wizards Trainers. The 3rd to 8th Grade Recreation Soccer League will be coached by Volunteer Parents and assisted by Wizards Trainers. Trainers will be at all practices, but coaches will be on their own at games. It is an opportunity for kids to practice and play games with their peers at a recreational level. All children will receive equal playing time in games. This is a recreational league so it is all about learning the game while having fun!
Note: Shin guards are required for all participants! (1st / 2nd grade must bring your own soccer ball).

Cedar Grove Children Grades 1 to 8 (separated by grade)
Cross country is a sport where teams and individuals run long-distance races on outdoor courses. This year the team will be coached by John Borgese. John headed our Recreation Track program as well. Meets will be held against towns such as Belleville, Nutley, Verona and Millburn. Parents are responsible for the transporting of kids to away meets.
Note: Children in grades 1 to 3 will be learning the sport and only be participating in practice, we will need parent volunteers and there is limited space.

Cedar Grove Children - Grades 1 to 8 (Only grades 4 to 8 will compete in meets)
Suburban Volleyball is for resident girls entering 7th / 8th grade in September. Matches will be held the entire month of October. Parents are expected to transport players to all away matches. Matches will be played against towns such as Verona, West Caldwell, and Montville.

Clinics will be supervised by veteran and accomplished player, Lynne DiGiacomo. These clinics are provided to teach and demonstrate the basics of the game and have fun while doing so! Participants will not be permitted to switch classes. You must only attend the clinic on the day you have registered. Children must bring a racquet.

Cedar Grove Children - Ages 5 to 14. Limited space.
Cedar Grove Soccer Club’s Coach Maria and the CG Recreation Department have joined together to offer a Developmental Soccer Program. This program will be coached by instructors from CSF Soccer Academy and volunteer parents. It is an opportunity for kids to learn the sport of soccer while having fun!
Note: Shin guards and soccer balls are required for all participants!

Cedar Grove Children - Age Pre to K4 (must be 4 when program starts) through Grade 5
Clinics will be run by Jim O’Hagan and Erica O’Hagan. This program will teach the basics of volleyball while having fun at the same time!

Girls - Grades 4 to 8
This 8-week gross / fine motor skills class for ages 2 to 4 with their caregiver, will include a series of warm-ups, across the floor and an introduction of a movement theme. Kinetic Kidz is based on the four elements of dance: Body, Space, Time, and Force. This class will mentor caregivers on how to incorporate more movement-based activities within their toddler’s days. (One caregiver per child is required). Caregivers must participate in all activities. No other children in the family other than the child registered, are permitted to attend / participate.

The class teaches the basics of self-expression through movement, visualization, and audio associations. With the use of props and music, the children will explore the 4 elements of creative dance: body, space, force, and time. This class will include a series of warm-ups, across the floor and an introduction of a movement theme. This class will also enhance balance; coordination, musicality, and future develop motor skills. What to wear: Comfortable clothes with sneakers. Ballet slippers may also be worn. Creative Movement is an introduction to dance.

Children - Ages 4 to 6. Limited space.
This eight-week course will introduce the students to acting, singing, and dancing and the world of musical theatre. They will focus on learning the terminology of the theatre, creating a character, vocalization, creative writing, and choreography. For the acting segment of this class, we will focus on improvisation, as we free each actor of their inhibitions. Acting is important for children of all ages, as it strengthens their self-esteem. At the end of the 8-week course, we will have an informal showing of the work we have accomplished.

Music Theater Children - Grades 3 to 5. Limited space.
AGES 4–6: Fun & Functional Fitness!
Ages 4–6 will enjoy age-appropriate fitness sessions designed to develop: Functional Strength, Balance, Hand-eye coordination, Basic athletic movements & Fun fitness games!
AGES 7–9: Fun House Fitness & Physical Education Activities!
Perfect for parents looking to add more movement to their child’s week!
Led by a Certified Physical Education Teacher, these sessions include: Homerun Ball, Scooters, Classic P.E. games…and more!
Ages
Children - Ages 4-9. Limited space.
Former elementary STEM teacher, Larry “Doc” Siegel, introduces the Engineering Design Process to young engineers who will build towers, bridges, egg catchers, and more. They will collaborate, brainstorm solutions, design, construct, test, and present 3D solutions. No child is too young to think like an engineer. After all, it’s about thinking! Children - Ages 4 through Grade 5. Limited space.
Youth K to 8th grade are eligible to participate. Youth will be evaluated on dance, jumps, tumbling, and stunting. All youth will make a team based on age and appropriate level. Exhibition, Level 1 or Level 2. Competition Cheer is a true team sport, therefore practices are mandatory and are held Tuesdays and Thursdays in the Fall and Winter. Competition season runs January through March with 6 to 8 local competitions and potentially one national event (Atlantic City or Hershey Park Pennsylvania, PA).

The US Sports Institute in conjunction with the Cedar Grove Rec Department, will hold Soccer Squirt, T-Ball Squirt, and Multi-Sport Squirt programs. Registration is done through the US Sports Institute website, not the Township Recreation Department.
