PATROL
DIVISION
The
most visible and largest part of the Cedar Grove Police Department is
the patrol division. Patrol is
responsible for handling all calls for service within the Township of
Cedar Grove as well as assisting
surrounding towns when requested The patrol division is currently made
up of 24 officers and two
dispatchers. Currently patrol is assigned six marked police cars and
one sport utility vehicle.
The
responsibilities assigned to patrol are numerous and varied Some of
these duties include handling all
calls for service, such as investigating citizen complaints and handling
emergency calls. Additional duties
include criminal investigation and enforcement of New Jersey motor vehicle
laws.
Every
time a call is placed to the Cedar Grove Police Department it comes
into the Communications Center.
A patrol officer or dispatcher handles all emergency (911) and non-emergency
calls. All officers are
qualified and trained to run the Communications Center where all calls
are answered. From this center we
have the ability to dispatch POLICE, FIRE, and EMS, as well as provide
additional assistance to units in
the field. The officer assigned to communications duty also has various
other responsibilities required to
maintain other general needs for the Township.
Officers
assigned to patrol also are responsible to respond to emergency situations.
Some of these may
included motor vehicle accidents, medical emergencies, and reports of
fire. Many members of the police
department are trained in fire fighting and are as EMTs. All officers
are also trained in the use of the
defibrillator. Additional training officers have received are in advanced
accident investigation, narcotics,
and DWI detection. All officers on the Cedar Grove Police Department
are continually upgrading their level
of training and knowledge so as to be able to provide the best service
possible.
