Motorcycle Unit

The Motorcycle Unit.

Cedar Grove Police Officer Michael Grasso, along with police motor officers from Paterson, Totowa, and The Passaic County Sheriff Department, attended the 17th Annual Southeast Police Motorcycle Skills Competition in Coral Springs, Florida.  Ptl. Grasso placed 13th in his division out of approximately 100 accomplished motor officers.

 


The Motorcycle Unit is now going into its 4th year of operation.  The Unit was originally put together with the aid of citizen donations and has been maintained with a replacement program whereby the two Harley-Davidson motorcycles are replaced on a yearly basis at no cost to the township.The Motorcycle Unit, along with patrol and traffic enforcement, conducts both roadside passenger and commercial vehicle inspection.  The Unit patrols all township parks and properties, including the Essex County Bicycle Path, Mills Reservation, and other areas where patrol vehicles cannot access.  The Unit also attends presentations at the townships public and private schools as an active part of the Department's Community Policing effort.

Cedar Grove Police Department Motor Officer Michael Grasso recently competed in the South East Police Motorcycle Rodeo Safety Trials held in Coral Springs Florida. This event is a large fundraiser for Concerns of Police Survivors (COPS) and the Muscular Dystrophy charities and is the largest police motorcycle safety skills event held in the Southeastern United States. Patrolman Grasso is a certified instructor and has competed and won many motor skills awards.



Motor Officer Michael Grasso displays the third place trophy he received at the Mid Atlantic Police Motorcycle safety competition held in Alexandria Virginia.  The officer competed in the expert class with over 100 accomplished police motor officers from the North East.
